Miscast or not miscast – The fails and successes

Marvel have announced that Bradley Cooper will voice Rocket Raccoon. This isn’t a good fit in my opinion. As a Brit reading Guardians of the Galaxy I had a voice eerily similar to the the one used in the excellent and devastatingly short lived The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Read the rest of this entry

The Dark Knight Rises – My Thoughts

My noble brethren have already shared their thoughts on Christopher Nolan’s third and final BATMAN film. Beard Man’s here and Deadgeek’s here. Yes I know it was 3 years ago, but better late than never, right? Read the rest of this entry

Checkpoint Gaming Lounge Coming To CARDIFF! But They Need Your Help!

Us nerds are actually very social creatures, as long as we’re in the right environment. Checkpoint Gaming Lounge is aiming to create that environment. You can sit back, chat about games – getting excited about next weeks releases over a beer, and the best part – everyone else is going to nerd out with you. Or you could get some lunch with your mates while hammering out Mileena’s fatality against your nemesis who’s beat your face in more times than you can count, BUT NOT THIS TIME! Soska Sisters to Direct Painkiller Jane

Fans of the Soska Sisters will be pleased to hear that they’re set to direct the comic book adaptation of ‘Painkiller Jane’. This is certainly great news for us here at Nerdarena, being huge fans of the Soska sisters they’re an excellent choice to bring this female heroine to life.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron Marketing Begins!

In about three weeks time we will all have forgotten about Guardians of the Galaxy and will be clamoring for the next installment of Kevin Feige’s insane experiment.

Those swines at Entertainment Weekly have the first batch of stills which is all well and good but more exciting is that they also give our first glimpse at Ultron.

Transformers: Extinction of Shia Trailer Offers Nothing Exciting

Michael Bay’s latest attempt at making a decent Transformers movie has one thing going for it. It doesn’t feature the loathsome Sam Witwicky and (presumably) won’t feature his equally loathsome parents.

Other than that? Same old, same old. Seeing Grimlock is fun for about as long as this trailer shows him. Based on nothing but my cynicism I’d say he will have none of the character of the original Grimlock.

Mark Wahlberg’s always fun so there’s that.

Seriously does anyone care about these films? I haven’t met anyone who actually likes them. Who keeps giving Bay money?

Black Widow Getting Her Own Film Treatment

In the new issue of Total Film Kevin Feige came out with the following statement:

“[Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”

This isn’t definite, but clearly a standalone Black Widow film is something they are taking very seriously.

How’s This For A Cool Age of Ultron Theory?

Well this would be clever.

With the announcement that Paul Bettany would be voicing the android synthazoid Vision in Age of Ultron many people wondered how the disembodied AI would be manifested physically. Well the smarty pants at IGN have a theory.

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment today in New York City.

Anyone with a passion for film will take this one hard. He was such a fantastic character actor that had so much left to give.  He will be remembered for his outstanding roles in Capote, Doubt, The Big Lewbowski and of course, most recently, The Master.

Hoffman has three feature films scheduled to be released this year – Gods Pocket, A Most Wanted Man and The Hunger Games:Mockingjay – Part 1.

Our condolences go to his friends and family.

Nerd Years Resolutions

The new year is underway and is settling in nicely. Us Nerds have already failed our health kicks because, you know, food and booze are tasty. Our saving plans went out the window what with the January sales…London Comic Con coming up…The Wolverine and Pacific Rim came out on Blu-ray…I couldn’t NOT buy the Back to the Future Lego set could I…Xbox and Steam had some good sales…And none of us have the inclination to learn a foreign language other than Klingon.

So we thought we would focus on something more achievable.  Something closer to our skill set. Something Nerdy. We would set some NERD Years Resolutions.  Read the rest of this entry
